Addictions
An addiction is a bad habit that you can't break. Addictions come in lots of different forms and can lead to serious problems.
People drink, use drugs or have other addictions for many reasons:
- To forget their problems
- Because their friends do
- Because they think it’s fun or exciting
- Because they wonder what it’s like
- Because they want to ‘break the rules’
Alcohol and drugs affect each person in a different way. Sometimes drinking or drug use can lead to all sorts of problems such as:
- depression
- mood swings
- bad judgement (you’re not able to work out the right thing to do in certain situations)
- accidents
- feeling ill the next day
- addiction (you can’t stop taking something)
- getting arrested
These addictions and others like gambling can make you secretive and can damage your relationships with family and friends. They can also lead to serious money problems.
