Dual Hertiage Event at the Nottingham Ice Arena
Trevor Phillips, the Chair of the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR), came to Nottingham on Wednesday 6th June 2007 to lead a discussion on achievement among mixed heritage young people.
The purpose of the event was to explore issues related to dual heritage/mixed race (in particular African Caribbean/White.
Young people from Nottinghamshire had the chance to discuss the issues and problems they face directly with Mr Phillips. Mr Phillips assured the young people that he intended to return to London and look at ways he could act upon their suggestions.
Holgate School get involved in logo design
Young people from Holgate School in Hucknall take part in the consultation for the County Children and Young People’s Services logo design, led by Connexions and the County Youth Engagement team.
Young people, from all over Nottinghamshire, were involved in every aspect of the logo design from the first concept to colours, wording and the idea of symbols to illustrate the five key outcomes – be healthy, be safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being.
Young People inspect Connexions Centres
Holly Waite inspects Mansfield Connexions centre. Holly was on the Connexions LMC (local Management committee before leaving Notts for University. Whilst on the Committee, Holly and other young people carried out inspections of all the Connexions centres in Nottinghamshire.
In 2006, young people from the City and County LMCs went through professional training to become service and centre inspectors. They set their own standards and inspected all the Connexions centres in the city and county.
There are all sorts of ways to get involved...
Over the years, young people who have been involved with Connexions and our partner organisations like the City and County Youth Services, have had the opportunity to talk to high profile politicians about key youth issues. This picture shows Rosie, Phillippe, Ryan and Holly with Children and Young People’s Minister, Beverley Hughes, after they had given her a good grilling about her plans for children and young people’s services.
Away days
Every year all the young people from the City and County, who have been involved with Connexions, get together for an away day. This year’s away day was at Thorpe Park. Following a day of exciting and scary rides, lunch was served, accompanied by certificates, at Tamworth Football Club.
