Gedling young people seen and heard
The Gedling District Youth Assembly, a group of young people who aim to increase youth provision in the Gedling Borough, have recently been working to integrate their recycling campaign into the Council’s agenda. The campaign involves increasing recycling facilities within schools in the Borough in the hope of improving recycling standards and helping waste management. Because of their hard work and effort the GDYA have won the regional Seen and Heard award that recognises their effort to work within the community to achieve something for the benefit of everyone. Out of many organisations competing for the award the GDYA have emerged victorious and should be congratulated for their outstanding work.
In addition to their community strategy efforts, the District assembly have been offered a position on the Gedling Partnership at Board level which will increase the flexibility of the assembly’s decision making abilities. The assembly looks forward to working with the Council to improve facilities for all residents of the Borough. In addition to being involved with the Partnership on a decision making level, the assembly is represented on the Local Area Forum and are helping to make decisions that will improve aspects of the local community.
In forthcoming weeks we are planning to release our 7th Newsletter, which contains articles about local issues and events, what the assembly is doing at the moment and a debate section focusing on crime and disorder. The newsletter has been redesigned to maximise its impact on Young People, by providing informative news and information about youth opportunities. For those of you who are unaware, the newsletter acts as a bridging tool between the assembly and the young people that we represent. It is integral in improving facilities and providing provision, because we have direct contact to places where young people visit such as schools, youth clubs, libraries and leisure centres where we are able to then gather young people’s views and opinions. Moreover, the newsletter has proved extremely successful in reaching young people and providing the opportunity for discussion to date, and we have received feedback from it which we can use in our further work.
The Assembly is expanding, with the addition of several new members who have proven to be excellent ambassadors for the young people of today, having put themselves forward for election for the available positions within the group. We have a new treasurer, secretary, a Vice chair of our Publicity and Promotions working group and several new representatives a county Eco committee, which is lead by our local Member of Youth Parliament. These young people should be congratulated, as should the existing members, for their continued hard work and effort.
We hope that this has been of some help in informing residents about how we operate as a group and our expected outcomes from our work. Should you wish to get in contact with the group regarding any queries or suggestions that you have, then please do not hesitate to email our secretary on the group email below:
