How did
Goose Fair get it's name?
Most likely
reason is due to the 20,000 Geese, arriving from the Fens in
Lincolnshire, would be sold to provide the traditional Michaelmas
dish. An old story said the name Goose Fair came about after
an angler caught a pike in the River Trent.
"Perched high in
the air a wild goose aspied the fish secured it and carried it off
with rod, line and angler attached". After the goose dropped
the angler, uninjured, in the Market Place, the old story goes that
a holiday and the Fair was set up to celebrate.

School
The Nottingham
Traveller team run Key Stage 3 and 4 learning at the annual
Goose Fair School. At the Goose Fair School, fairground young
people can catch up on their distance learning, meet new friends
and try out new activities.
"Both men and
women play a major role within the community and it is common to
see young women driving 50 tonne loads, painting , welding and
putting up and taking down rides and stalls. Age and gender
are not important it is the end result that counts. That is
why this cultural community has continued for 300
years."
