Bills and budgets
Getting to grips with household bills and budgeting for them can be mind-numbing!
Many bills can now be paid by direct debit which means that you won't have to pay one huge amount every three months (and it's usually a little cheaper) but if you're not sure how long you're staying, or if you're sharing, then you might want to pay each quarterly bill as it arrives. Never pay bills by sending cash in the post - send a cheque or pay at a Post Office.
Rent will be your biggest outgoing every month (or week) and also the one to make sure you don't fall behind on. If you get behind with any bills or payments contact your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau for free advice on managing your debts.
