Want to go to university next year? Worried about how much it might cost you? Did you know that the rules have changed?

Watch this DVD to find out more. Here are the main changes...

  • From September next year more people will be able to get money from the government to help with their living costs while they are studying. This money is called a maintenance grant.
Why? The government has raised the amount of money your household (this could be your family or it could be just you depending on your situation) can be earning when they work out how much they will give you for your grant. This means that more people will get the full amount of the grant or at least some of it.

  • If you will be 16 by September next year and qualify for EMA, then the government will tell you the amount of money that you would get if you decide to go to university.
  • What about student loans? If you start repaying your student loans from April 2012 (it sounds a long time away, but it will be at the end of your course if you start university in September 2008), you can choose to take up to a five year break from paying back your loan at any time.
