If you’re a teenage parent, you don’t have to try to cope on your own. Your doctor and health visitor are there to support you and there are other groups you can also turn to for help, advice and support. You don’t have to put your future completely on hold. Speak to your Connexions Personal Adviser about the range of education, training and career opportunities that are still open to you.

Care to Learn is a childcare scheme for young parents. If you are aged 19 or under and in learning or training, you could be able to get funding to support childcare of up to £160 per week, or up to £175 a week in London (2008). Care to learn could pay for:

Childcare costs while you learn

Childcare costs for extra home/private study time

A childcare deposit of up to £250 (if one is charged)

A childcare registration fee of £80 (if one is charged)

Your necessary travel costs to and from your childcare provider
