Going for an interview
Going for an interview
So you’ve applied for a job and have been offered an interview. Here are a few tips to help you on your way.
Remember to:
- Re-read the job description
- Check where and when the interview is
- Plan your journey
- Look clean and smart
- Introduce yourself to the receptionist
- Smile, be polite and act enthusiastic
- Take your exam certificates and ‘Record of Achievement’
- Take a pen and a notebook
Don't:
- Arrive late
- Chew gum or smoke
- Argue, slouch or fidget
- Make too many jokes
Interviews can take many forms. You might be interviewed by one person or a panel. You may also be asked to do a test. A good example of this is a word-processing test if you are applying for an administration job.
Don’t forget that an interview gives you a chance to see whether you would like to work for the people interviewing you! Prepare a few questions you would like to ask.
