ICT industry - around the world

Many of the large IT companies have moved parts of their services overseas to countries such as India, China and Russia. China is already the biggest exporter of computer goods and has a booming gaming industry; it needs more IT engineers. India too has a rapidly growing software sector and is becoming a major exporter of software services and software workers.

Ireland has taken over the USA in becoming the largest exporter of software in the world and has over 120 large multi-national companies.

Software engineering and the computer industry in general is one the largest growing employment areas in the USA. They are at the forefront in technological advances and prospects for working in this industry there are good.

Brazil and Germany are both experiencing skills shortages in their ICT industries.

Japan’s economy is shifting away from manufacturing towards the information and service industries. Many UK industries operate some of their business from Japan.
