Work Experience

Factory Worker

In Years 10 and 11 you'll probably get the chance to do work experience.

Work experience gives you the opportunity to see what the world of work is really like; it gives you the chance to spend up to two weeks in a company, working alongside other people and seeing what their job involves.  Employers like someone who's had some experience of the workplace.

You will:

  • Prepare beforehand at school

  • Find out first hand about the ‘world of work’

  • Find out more about yourself and develop new skills
  • Keep a diary or workbook, collect information and answer questions on your work

All of this can help you to make decisions about your future career. You can find out more about work experience and look at opportunities in Nottinghamshire on the Work Experience Program website.

You could also organise your own work experience in the sixth form or once you've left school.  Fetch! can take you to some useful websites.

Ask your form teacher or Connexions Personal Adviser about work experience in your school.

Use Kangaroo in your school to find out more about Health and Safety at work before you go!
